Released 12/10/1985, Choujikuu Yousai Macross, or Super Dimension Fortress Macross, is a mecha combat space shooter exclusively developed for the Famicom by Namco and Bandai. Though never released on the NES, or any other system, you might know the anime it is based on: Robotech.

Robotech is actually an expansion of the original 1982 Macross show in Japan, and I highly recommend watching the fan translation of the original on YouTube to see what got cut out. The game faithfully reproduces the show's designs, and we even get a glimpse of Lynn Minmay, one of the stars of the show at the beginning! Unfortunately, the gameplay suffers from some of the same criticisms as Volguard II, and in fact it bears an uncanny resemblance to that game. It may be slightly better than Volguard II, but not by much.

I am considering a playthrough to be beating the Hi-Score. I played on an original NES with a Game Genie adapter (see Shorts) to allow for playing a Famicom cartridge. I am using an original NES controller, RCA cables, and a Sharp X-Flat 27" CRT TV.
