Released 12/11/1985, 1942 for Famicom is a port by Micronics of Capcom's arcade classic vertical-scrolling shooter from 1984. You play as a U.S. fighter pilot, Captain Commando, flying the Super Ace in WWII. Battling through enemy planes off the islands of Japan, you make your way to Tokyo. This game is almost like the mirror image of Taito's Sky Destroyer, and even features some of the same planes.

The soundtrack is terrible, but the original wasn't much better. No one wants to listen to a whistle going off incessantly. I guess it fits the theme, but at what cost to enjoyability? The only port to really nail the music landed (pun intended) on the Commodore 64. While not unplayable, this is definitely a game better played on mute. I think the sequel, 1943, is far superior.

I am considering a playthrough to be beating the Hi Score. I played on an original NES with a Game Genie adapter (see Shorts) to allow for playing a Famicom cartridge. I am using a NES Advantage controller, RCA cables, and a Sharp X-Flat 27" CRT TV.
