Released 12/5/1985, Lunar Ball for Famicom is a port of a PC-8800 computer game by Compile, brought over by Pony Canyon and also released on MSX. What at first appears to be a straightforward game of billiards turns out to be something with more depth. The friction/gravity can be adjusted from the start, and the tables come in all different shapes and sizes. This game would eventually make it to the NES as Lunar Pool in 1987. Despite being identical to the Famicom version, the artwork is better on the NES cartridge and the name is more accurate.

Lunar Ball/Pool turns out to be more fun when you adjust the friction/gravity to roughly that of the moon, taking a clue from the game's title. The tricky part of lowering the friction/gravity is your chances of scratching the cue ball go up significantly. Still, this mode is the only way to play in my opinion, and it makes Lunar Ball a bit of a hidden gem. Looking up the gravity for other planets and their moons would also be a fun way to play.

I am considering a playthrough to be beating the Hi Score. I played on an original NES using a blacklight NES controller, RCA cables, and a Sharp X-Flat 27" CRT TV.
