I generally haven't played games while they're in Early Access, let alone as soon as they launch in it. I'm making an exception for Selaco.

The demos have already made it abundantly clear that Selaco's developers know what they're doing, and that they're extremely dedicated to putting out a polished product at every step of the way.

The demos and teasers have also made it clear that this game pushes GZDoom way harder and further than anything else I've seen. This isn't to sell other in-development GZDoom-based games short; many of them are plenty impressive in their own right. But at some point you usually get a feeling of "ah yeah, this is built on GZDoom" - again, not necessarily in a bad way, but the resemblance is there, perhaps even intentionally.

With Selaco, on the other hand, there are multiple layers of added mechanics, completely original enemies with advanced behaviors, tons of environmental detail with all-new graphics, and a full-blown UI overhaul that is far more expansive than any I've ever seen in a GZDoom-based game before, with tons of options in every dimension. This game absolutely carries its own identity - you are going to forget this is based on GZDoom.

If you've seen the demos before, much of the menus and maps in this first segment will seem familiar, as level 1 is largely what was present in previous demos, but keep your eyes peeled for new details to appreciate, and stay tuned for next time as we forge ahead into unseen territory.
