Chrono Trigger: Endgame Bosses (Black Omen)
0The final dungeon of the game and a place that's technically optional but you really should do it if you want to wrap up the story arcs. This place has a lot of bosses and even some minibosses but it'll also net you the best gear in the game. Almost every enemy has something worth charming from them be it Golden Studs, strength capsules, megalixirs, magic capsules, and even Nova Armor.
I was thinking about including the fight with Lavos here but that fight deserves its own video and I didn't want it to overshadow the fight against Queen Zeal.
Omen's Gate: Difficulty 2/10 This fight isn't hard at all it's just meant to be a challenge to see how many potions you can steal from the turrets before they die. And if you come here during the future you get a unique cutscene with Queen Zeal.
Mega Mutant: Difficulty Varies/10 The Megamutant isn't very strong for a fully prepared team instead it's a telling the player "you're not ready for this go back" after you beat King Dalton and gain access to the black Omen. Steal for a Vigilants hat.
Blubber Hulk: Difficulty 3.5/10 Fairly low HP as this guy turns into a semi common enemy for the rest of the dungeon but it will counter EVERYTHING you do with a strong physical attack that deals upwards of 350 damage. Steal for a strength Capsule
Ghaj: Difficulty 5/10 Not so much a boss as a VERY remote enemy only appearing in 2 battles in the entire game. They don't do too much on their own... except they will counter your attacks with INSTANT DEATH and it hits through any resistances so don't screw around and only use techniques. Thankfully they don't counter things like Charm which is good because they have magic capsules to steal
Giga mutant: Difficulty 4/10 Not a hard boss as much as it's an annoying one. This boss has very high physical defense so magic is the way to go (meaning I picked the worst possible team for this fight) the boss loves to spam attacks that inflict status effects but that's kinda pointless when you've likely gotten some vigilant hats and nova armor by this point. The only real threats are it counters with an MP draining attack each time the top half is hit and it has a move called life shaver which brings a party member to 1 HP. Steal for the Acuity Ring
Tera Mutant: Difficulty 6/10 I had a joke ready to go about "Terra Mutant but I don't see any earth attacks" only for the boss to immediately open up with an earthquake attack. The Tera Mutant is going to be very hard to kill as it has near perfect physical defense and fairly high magic defense with 12000 HP. The big gimmick is that the top half will drain HP from the bottom until it runs out of HP but otherwise it's a fairly straightforward fight and when one part runs out of health the other is soon to die right after. Steal for the Muscle Ring
Black Omen Defense System: Difficulty 3/10 This fight is either easy or easy but long. Mainly how much do you want to steal the 5 speed capsules... the answer is very.
Elder Lavos Spawn: Difficulty 6/10 It's like the previous lavos spawn but with higher stats and more magic. Do what you always do.
Queen Zeal: Difficulty 8.5/10 Queen Zeal is finally able to fought and she's not an easy battle at all. She has 3 phases in total. Normal Queen Zeal isn't too dangerous outside of her signature move Halation which brings everyones HP down to 1 where a follow up attack can end this fight quickly. Phase 2 is the Mammon Machine which is weird because he gets more dangerous the more you attack it but with the Masamune you can reset the energy and really the boss just sits there most of the time. Phase 3 is against true Queen Zeal and is where the real challenge lies. In fact if you want to make the fight cooler and more difficult bring Magus into the battle. As for steals one hand has a prismatic helm and the other has the Prismatic Dress which is the best armor in the game for Nadia and Ayla. Otherwise basically everything this boss does hits hard and Queen Zeal has 20000 HP so it's a long fight. Not to mention if you bring Magus the boss music changes (and I've only ever seen her use Halation in this form if you bring Magus to the party)
With Queen Zeal Slain and Lavos present the Black Omen is destroyed... because of that I highly recommend you tackle this dungeon in the present so it'll still be around in the middle ages and antiquity so you can run through the dungeon again for more levels and items. Plus this is the only way to get additional prismatic dresses.
