Chrono Trigger - Ending #3 - The Dream Project
ENDING #3 - THE DREAM PROJECT
HOW TO GET - Defeat Lavos in the Ocean Palace or immediately after starting new game.
That's right. There's two ways to get this ending. The first method involves beating Lavos in the Ocean Palace. This is the fight that doesn't have to be won, where you face Lavos and Crono ends up dying. Here, Lavos has a whopping 30,000 HP and is much more powerful than the Lavos shell you'll face later in the game. I haven't actually attempted to beat the game this way. I found it much easier to simply fight him at the beginning of a 'New Game+'.
In this method, you'll see one of those little twinkling lights on the Right Telepod when you go to see Lucca's demonstration. You can either face Lavos alone as Crono, or bring Marle along with you. The fight becomes much easier and faster if you bring her along, as it will mean an extra person to help you heal. Plus, you'll have access to the Crono-Marle Double Techs like 'Ice Sword'. On my original playthrough of the game, I made sure to do the Black Omen in all three time periods, so I was able to Charm quite a few 'Megalixirs' from Zeal. So really, make it easier on yourself and use them to quickly heal everyone and restore their MP.
The strategy for Lavos' final form is still the same: defeat the left pod first, wait for the right pod to lower its defense and then spam your strongest attacks. When you win, you'll be transported to the End of Time. However, it's technically the development team's room. Everyone will congratulate you for beating the game and getting the hardest ending. In order to get to the final room, you must speak with literally everyone and then check-in with Gaspar. The door to Spekkio's room, which you couldn't open before, will now be unlocked. You'll then meet the 'Dream Team', the developers responsible for making the game:
Akira Toriyama
Nobuo Uematsu (Norstein Bekkler)
Yƫji Horii
Kazuhiko Aoki
Hironobu Sakaguchi
When you speak to the final one, they'll inform you that they'll now play the credits super fast in honor of you beating the game so quickly. Was this ending worth it? Probably not, but I'm a completionist.
