Chrono Trigger - Ending #1 - Beyond Time (All Versions)
I thoroughly enjoyed making my playthrough of Chrono Trigger. But I realized it was incomplete without a series of videos covering the various endings. That's right! The original Chrono Trigger has a whopping 12 different endings! The DS, Android and Steam ports of Chrono Trigger also include an additional quest which leads to a thirteen ending! We're going to be seeing it all, right here folks. So let's get started with the first ending...
ENDING #1 - BEYOND TIME
How to get this Ending - Defeat Lavos after re-acquiring Crono using the Chrono Trigger
1. 00:13 - Keep Epoch, Magus is in the party
2. 15:57 - Keep Epoch, no Magus
3. 31:07 - Use Epoch, Magus is in the party
4. 44:58 - Use Epoch, no Magus
This is considered the 'main ending' and most likely the ending you will experience through a regular playthrough of the game. There are four different versions of this ending, depending on whether Magus was allowed to join you and whether or not you used Epoch to travel to the Day of Lavos.
Crono is in the present era, in his bed sleeping. He is woken up by one of the King's soldiers and summoned to the castle. Crono is told by the soldier that the stay of execution has been cancelled. At the castle, the King begins to lecture him and Marle tries to defend him. However, it's all a ruse.
The King knows what Crono and Marle have been busy saving the world and the future. Kino from 65M BC, King Guardia from 600 AD and Doan from 2300 AD appear and recount how Crono has helped them. It is revealed that they are the ancestors and descendants of Marle. The King forgives Crono and Marle and tells them to go enjoy the last day of the Millennial Fair, dubbed the Moonlight Parade.
At the fair, you have one last chance to talk to a few characters, including Crono's Mom, Lara and Taban, as well as Melchior. Depending on whether you saved Lara in Fiona's quest, she and Taban will have different dialogue. If you head to the Telepods, it's time to say goodbye to everyone. If you did not use Epoch to get to Lavos, the Gate will remain open. Crono's cat will run into the Gate and his mom will follow. The King will present Marle with 'Nadia's Bell', but the gang will head off to the Epoch to go save Crono's Mom.
If you used Epoch to get to Lavos, the ending will change slightly. The Gate will close after everyone leaves. The King will present Marle with Nadia's Bell, however Marle and Crono will float away holding the ballons that were attached to the bell. Additionally, if Magus is not in your party, you will see scenes in the end credits where Frog changes back into a human.
Additionally, I'm told there's some variation if you did not save the Chancellor. But that's pretty much it.
