Chrono Trigger - Ch. 29 - The Final Battle (Ending #1 - Beyond Time)
CHAPTER 29 - THE FINAL BATTLE (ENDING # 1 - BEYOND TIME)
Oh boy, here we go! There's absolutely nothing left for us to do. We did all the side-quests mentioned by Gaspar in 'The Fated Hour'. We defeated Zeal in the Black Omen. I even went back and did the Black Omen in the two other time periods where it still existed. It's a real snoozer. The only boss you'll run into is Zeal, but it gives you the opportunity to Charm additional Megalixirs and Prism gear. I used the opportunity to top off my team for the final battle.
One thing I'd like to mention is that if you're going for a 'New Game +', it give you the gear you had on your last save. Not the gear you have when you actually finish the game. So there's no reason for you to save any Megalixirs or Tabs. Go all out!
Anyway, when we finished the Black Omen, we were inside Lavos' outer-shell. Here, there is a save point and a time gate, which leads to the Lavos Day bucket at the End of Time. If you head back to the End of Time, Gaspar will acknowledge that you beat the Black Omen and will confirm that there's nothing left to do but beat Lavos. Get your party together and let's do this...
For my party, I decided to go with Lucca, Magus and Robo. Namely because their Triple Tech, 'Omega Flare' is the strongest triple tech in the game. In order to use this triple tech, you'll need the 'Blue Gemstone' or 'Blue Rock', which is found in Giant's Claw in 600 AD. I decided to equip this on Magus and have the other characters use Golden Studs. Although, you don't really need the studs as you're free to use all items freely. It's a good reason to have one piece of gear per character that prevents status ailments, such as the Prismatic Helm. Finally, you might as well use all your available Tabs to boost your party's stats as needed.
And now, we'll fight Lavos...
Lavos - 20,000HP (Head), 12,000HP (Left Arm), 8,000HP (Right Arm)
This is technically Lavos' second form. The first being the shell you fought at the end of the Black Omen. The main strategy here is to defeat the arms first and then the head. Both hands will attempt to remove status immunity. However the right hand also heals the head and does a few moves to inflict some damage and status ailments. I simply did Omega Flare twice to kill off both arms. You won't be able to damage the head much until the arms are dead. Omega Flare does about 4,500 damage, based on my current party. So it will take about 4-5 Omega Flares to kill the head. When defeated, Lavos' final form will emerge, the Lavos Core.
Lavos Core - 2,000HP (Left), 10,000HP (Lavos), and 30,000HP (Right)
You may think the goal here is to defeat the center pod, which appears to be the main foe. However, the real enemy is the right pod. If you kill off the left and center pods, the right one will resurrect them in a few turns. The strategy here is to first defeat the left pod, which only have 2,000 HP. The left pod has a move similar to the left hand of the previous form, which will void status immunity. It also absorbs magic, so you must use physical attacks here. But it's only 2,000 HP, so it shouldn't be that tough.
The right pod will have its defense turned on when the left and center pods are still on the field. So once you defeat the left pod, its defenses will shut off while it prepares to revive it. At this point, you'll need to hammer the right and center pods with Omega Flare, while also healing as needed. This may take some time, but the right pod will not heal itself, so you'll defeat it eventually if you hang in there.
When you defeat the right pod, the center pod will also die. Sit back and enjoy the ending. If you've done everything as I did in this walkthrough, you should see some form of 'Ending #1 - Beyond Time'. In this video, you will see 'Ending 1B - Follow that Cat!'. In this one, Crono's cat and Mom will enter a Time Gate and it's suggested that you'll use the Epoch to go find her.
Is it me though, or does Crono actually look pretty happy that his Mom is now lost somewhere in Time? Lol. Anyway, in this version, you'll be treated to a few clips after the credits showing Crono and Marle getting married, along with other cool scenes. Now that I have my 'New Game +' option, I hope I can see and record all the other endings. I guess only time will tell...
Thanks for watch and enjoy the ending!
