This is the last battle before we get our fabulous prizes from the Rainbow Shell sidequest. Unlike the fight against Rust Tyrano, this one is actually challenging and can be easily lost.

Our party choice is Crono (because we're playing a low level game, remember?), Marle (she must be present in the party to proceed in the story) and Ayla (we need to Charm a White Mail from Yakra XIII...), which in the end leads us to the situation where easily the WORST party is forced to fight Yakra XIII. Ayla is no longer good because everybody else got better weapons and thus damage potential. From this point and onwards, she will mostly be used for Charming purposes exclusively.

However, in this case she is the only decent party member. Marle and Crono die quite fast and Ayla is the one burdened by the gruesome aim to win this battle essentially solo, with necessary assistance from Crono during the deadly 2nd phase of Yakra XIII.

First of all, in order to stay alive Ayla NEEDS an Amulet to protect her from confusion. Elixirs are used to recover both HP and MP in one turn, when MP loss is not an issue, Mid Tonics are used.

You will know when Yakra XIII enters the dangerous second phase when he shouts out some rubbish about his ancestors. When he does, immediately revive Crono.

The reason for this is that Yakra will now begin attacking Ayla faster than she can heal herself, pretty much leading to her quick death. This is why we need an extra character.

Make sure both Crono and Ayla are alive and have Crono heal Ayla with Elixirs and Mid Tonics while Ayla concentrates on attacking with Rock Throw.

Yakra XIII has a death counter which CAN kill you, so make sure Ayla is at full health before dealing the final blow. How? Either count down his HP using a calculator or just make sure you are at full health before attacking.

I didn't do either and was just lucky to be at full health at that moment. lol.
