CiB Game Boy Theater - Batman and Home Alone (Episode 68)
The Original Game Boy is one of the biggest 'game changers' in the history of video games, and essentially ushered in the popularity of handheld games. There are many games that will be classic forever. There are, however, a much, much higher number of simply awful, forgettable, or downright weird games. CiB Game Boy Theater shows you some of the games you might not (and shouldn't be...) familiar with.
---Please note, I didn't realize until typing this up that I picked two 1980s movie tie-in games. Aww yeah---
Batman for Game Boy is made by Sunsoft. Sunsoft generally makes pretty good to exceptional games. This game is pretty darn good - easily in the top 20% of what we've seen so far. It's one of those games that you go 'Hey... I could play this to completion', which, as we've found out, is pretty rare. Seeing the tiny Batman sprite at first is pretty funny, but honestly, it works for the best. I would much rather have it this way than a huge, lumbering Batman sprite that makes it impossible to get around. This was a good game, which means ---
Always gotta mix the good with the bad, and Home Alone is bad. Are you honestly surprised? I think the most surprising thing is that the Genesis version of Home Alone is actually a pretty solid game. Every single other Home Alone game that I'm aware of is just awful - this one included. Do you want a game that you'll play for 5 minutes and then never want to pick up again? Do you want a Game Boy game that makes you instantly ask 'where do I go?' --- boy. Do we have the game for you! Thanks for watching.
