“TROLLS is packed with loads of action, collectables and surprises. It’s a game you won't want to stop playing and it’s just like having your very own coin-op arcade machine.
I don’t know whether to laugh or cry at this game. One of the last boxed games to grace the C64 and the 6th and final C64 game from Flair Software going out on more of a whimper than a bang. The game seems quite rushed and was maybe not completed (few levels) and pushed out to pull in what cash it could.
The game opens with the title screen with a short tune and then quickly onto the game. There are only 6 levels made up of three worlds and thankfully quite short. After the ending the game loops back to level 1 with all lives restored. The controls are hyper sensitive and make your character very floaty making you move around very fast and unpredictable. Not all enemies can be crushed or killed adding to the annoyance. There are collectables which only serve to add to your score as well as Trolls to find in order to exit the level. Weirdly, you will hear what seems to be items being picked up, but these are not represented by anything on screen nor do they add to your score. The graphics are quite simple and not a game you would want to show off. I mean it is a way that I don't think it represents the pinnacle of graphics for a C64 in 1993.
Overall I think the game is way more difficult than it should be but thankfully the maps are quite small, so if you take your time it is not difficult to commit them to memory. It's usually the well dodgy collision detection that will ruin your day if not the inertia.
