Potsworth & Co, developed by Visual Impact and published by Hi-Tech Software in 1992.

“You might not know it, but whilst people everywhere snuggle down and their filled eyes are closing, their dreams, thoughts and fantasies, whether good or bad, become reality in the Dream Zone. Potsworth and his human friends; Carter Keiko, Rosie and Nick are no exception, and each night, once asleep, they join forces in the Dream Zone to experience fantastic adventures together…

The snoozing ruler of the Dream Zone, the Grand Dozer, has a big problem, for try as he might, he just cannot sleep, and he’s putting the Dream Zone in terrible jeopardy, for it will surely disappear if his slumber cannot continue. The Dozer’s arch enemy, the Nightmare Prince possesses the only solution, “The Potion of Slumber”. The question is, just how to get this potion to the Grand Dozer before it’s too late…. Enter Potsworth & Co., for it’s time for action on a mission that could bring sweet dreams or a nightmarish end. So wake up and help our famous TV cartoon canine Potsworth and his four friends in this superb computer game. Go on - make it a ‘dog’s tail` with a happy ending.”

An average platformer for the C64. Maybe the 16bit version is better, but here it can be annoying trying to navigate the large maps and being at the mercy of the collision detection if enemies appear on screen. The game moves at a brisk pace and does require some precision jumping to reach some platforms. The first level might be the hardest as you can pretty much go anywhere and find you need to go through the same areas again to reach another. The remaining levels are a little more linier and you don't have to double back much at least until going for the exit.

Presentation wise, it opens up with a title tune that doesn't sound quite right with random fart sounds popping in it. I tried a sid player with various different filter curves but none of them really fix it. Sonic Graffiti that provided the tune must have had a very unique Sid if it is indeed playing back wrong here. It’s also the only music in the game which is a let down in a C64 game. Graphically, it looks quite nice and having different player sprites and themes for each level really gives you something to look forward to when reaching the next level. While playing I thought that the C64 Trolls developer should have taken a look at this game for inspiration for it’s level art.

I recorded this mainly to have all 3 Visual Impact games recorded. Overall I don’t think it’s that good of a game, at least on the C64 if only because of how tedious it becomes dropping boxes on switches to open doors in a maze like level. It’s the collision detection that causes frustration.
