Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade - The Action Game, developed by Tiertex and published by Lucasfilm / US Gold in 1989.
"The chase is on ... all the way to the greatest treasure in history, the Holy Grail. And if you can survive the treacherous caves of Colorado ... the medieval catacombs of Venice ... the deadly ramparts of Schloss Brunwald ... and the cunning traps of the Grail Temple ... then you've earned your whip and your hat!"
The last crusade action game was converted for many platforms and each have their own platform specific traits. Im guessing the C64 version was outsourced and converted for Tiertex and its a bit of mishmash. The game seriously lacks presentation as it has no loading screen, no intro and no level interludes as well as no ending. While the gameplay gfx are well done, the status bar looks to have been lifted straight from the Spectrum version. Even the Amstrad version got a colorful status panel. A pretty poor effort all round really.
That said, the game plays ok through its 5 levels. The game is fairly easy with the main challenge being the Jumping far more than dealing with enemies. The torches seem oddly placed in level 1 with some close together and others so far apart the light eventually goes out. level 2 is just a few simple jumps on the train but level 3 can be a little challenging with the bombs randomly appearing on top of you. Level 4 is probably the best. Not to long, a little exploration and a few easy kills. Level 5 is pretty much a race against the clock. The sound is very basic but the gameplay area is well drawn and detailed and better than expected really.
Overall though due to the lack of presentation, the C64 version is a bit of a let down but it plays reasonably well and not too dissimilar to its high-end counterparts.
