Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom Arcade conversion by Paragon Gaming for US Gold and published by Mindscape in the US in 1988.

"Get ready for your most dangerous adventure yet, Indiana Jones! The ruthless high priest Mola Ram has enslaved the children of Mayapore and stolen the sacred and powerful Sankara Stones. Your quest to free the captives and find the hidden treasure takes you through treacherous caverns and twisting tunnels, across narrow ledges and fiery chasms... to the perilous Temple of Doom itself. Use your trusty bullwhip to battle fierce Thuggee guards, giant bats, and poisonous cobras. With skill and a little bit of luck, you might just make it out of this one alive!"

C64 conversion of the arcade game by Atari. the US release is being played here which has a slightly different (better?) colour palette which at the very least makes the enemies multicolored. Although pink ladders and rollers look out of place against the brown and grey in the UK release.

The game has three level types. Level one involves running around the mines freeing the children. Level 2 takes you on a mine cart sequence to the temple of doom. Here you need to watch out for broken track and guards coming from behind. On level 3, you need to recover a stone. The levels then cycle again being slightly longer and more difficult. Once you've collected 3 stones, you face off against Mola Ram at the end of a bridge. You cant actually attack him, but reaching him sends you off to a bonus stage. The bonus stage is pure point building until all your lives are gone making the game essentially endless.

It's not a great conversion for the 64 and presentation is massively lacking for such a big license. It starts of fairly simple but once Mola Ram appears it gets annoying very quickly as you have to fend off his fireballs every few seconds. In fact I think it a little too difficult to be enjoyable as you are being harassed by some enemy constantly. The final bonus level could surly have been done better. After collecting the three voodoo dolls simply letting you find the exit and claiming extra score for any lives left would have been enough. As well as a nice picture of the saved Indian village and the stones back in their rightful place.

Oh and the damned looping music, real annoying.
