Comparative Study of Tropospheric Scintillation Prediction Models at Covenant University, Ota, Southwest Nigeria
Layman's Abstract: Tropospheric scintillation refers to disturbances in satellite signals caused by the Earth's atmosphere, especially at higher frequencies. These disruptions are a challenge for satellite communication, affecting signals both going up and coming down. This study used data from a satellite link at Covenant University in Nigeria, gathered over a year, to understand these disruptions. Researchers compared different models that predict these disruptions and found that the Karasawa model provided the most accurate results for this region. This model was particularly good at predicting signal fading and improvement. The findings will help improve satellite communication systems by ensuring better antenna design and signal quality in the area, but further testing at even higher frequencies is recommended.
