Crash Bandicoot(REMAKE)Part 5,Stormy Ascent Completion(HARDEST LEVEL,DLC)
I put this in this playlist since its part of the first game, though optional.
Deaths are edited out, showing only the successful parts. My final attempt on this level was around 45 minutes, using up 38 lives. Would be too drawn out for most to watch. I beat it with 4 lives remaining, starting with 42 lives.
However, I exhausted 40 lives prior to this on another attempt. Plus one or a few continues at the default 4 lives each. Probably between 86-100 lives in total learning the level.
Total play time including the successful attempt is around 2 hours and 15 minutes before learning the level. Not including 17 minutes of farming lives.
I still probably find high road harder with the inconsistant fucking turtle bouncing. I used the ropes as shown in my video on that level. That was also still a pain in the ass.
Other than that , I can see why this would be considered too hard for mainstream players. The timings can be tricky. It requires a pretty high skill level at games in general and the ability to recognize patterns and rhythyms and of course execute them. Great level though and look forward to more DLC of this type.
Jumping and movement has some lag and start up and can be sluggish. As well as ledges sometimes have spotty landing detection. So you have to account for that when timing your movement. I often also had commands that didnt seem to register. Like jumping. Thats probably tied into the sluggish movement. The extra animations on the characters can contribute to that.
The key is knowing all the timings on the various obstacles. The best way I find to do this type of thing is to mark points mentally. For example, when a platform reachs the back, right before moving forward again, is often when you should start your jump to land on it. This accounts for the lag of response time as well as being in the air from the jump. There is alot of different timings like that to get down and learn for this level.
Practice and/or watching the timing in videos can help with this. Just make a mental note and try different timings. You dont want to repeat the same thing many times if its not working or not close to working. That can lead to alot of frustration. Take it slow and analyse the movements and rhythyms. Visualize where you are going to land, etc. Feel the rhythym for the parts where platforms pop in and out along the wall. Watch it for a moment and try to feel it. Once you lock in that feeling you can calmly react at the right times. You will sometimes have to delay your jumps at different intervals so its important to feel the rhythym. For some of parts where platforms pop out of the wall its basically just about jumping immediately to the next upon landing, but it varies.
This wasnt too bad for me. Something like Jim Power on Snes was much more extreme, as far as platformers,so this just required some practice and understanding the patterns. See my Jim Power video to understand. That game has very spastic platforms. I used the same type of mentality for this as well. Slow, analysing the rhythym before proceeding. And of course muscle memory from practicing the executions.
I would definately reccomend farming some lives for this. Both to practice the level at various checkpoints and to eventually beat it.
Stay tuned !!
