Creepy fog and bloody train / Lets Play Umibōzu
I saw this little indie horror game on itch and was drawn in by the cool, retro-styled PSX visuals. This is the story of a girl who wants to take a train. That’s really it because unfortunately, the story is as light as a feather, stiff as a board. However, because everything else is super neat (such as the gameplay and environments) I still enjoyed this. Funny how that goes, usually I would say that lack of story means that I will not like it but here we are.
Also, this is a first game attempt by the dev and as such it is really neat. Especially the gameplay was fun and it had some nice ideas that might be used in the future to create something truly engaging.
So, I also looked up what Umibōzu means and it’s entirely confusing because it has nothing to do with the game. Apparently, Umibōzu is a Japanese sea monster that will sink ships whenever a sailor dares to talk to it. I get it, I am an introvert as well. But I really don’t know what connects it to the story. Maybe the bridge we walk over at some point? So many questions.
Play the game yourself, maybe find things I didn’t and give some love to the developer Kabuto: https://kbto.itch.io/umibozu
