Hello and welcome to the first of episode of “Counter Strike - In Depth”. Today we are looking at one of the most iconic weapons of all time, and one of the most effective weapons in counter strike global offensive, the AK47.

The AK47 originates from the soviet union by designer Mikhail Kalashnikov who after being wounded in the second world war decided to create his own fully automatic assault rifle, a brand new concept for the time. Designs were created in 1945 and borrowed heavily from the German Sturmgewhr 44, the first assault rifle every created also known as the MP43. It was made the official rifle of the soviet armed forces in 1949 and is now the most popular assault rifle ever created with an estimated 100 million AK style rifles ever produced and used world wide even to this day.

The AK47 is a terrorist only weapon, and can be purchase in the rifle section for $2700, and grants a $300 reward per kill. The magazine contains 30 rounds and you carry and additional 90 rounds, giving you 120 rounds in total or 4 fully loaded magazines, which can be reloaded in 2.5 seconds. The weapon has a very powerful recoil, climbing up and then moving to the sides. but is very consistent and reliable, firing at a somewhat slow 600 rpm, fully automatic fire is a very effective way to use this weapon at close and even medium ranges. The weapon can also be tap fired very effective, since we know the recoil climbs up in the first 5 or so shots, we can easily just pull down with the mouse slightly to give us a reliable tap shooting kills.

However the AK47 has possibly the most desirable quality in game, one shot kill potential at any range. The first shot with the ak47 is extremely accurate hitting the dead center of your cross-hairs, so firing a single bullet then and waiting a brief moment for the recoil to settle will result in perfect accuracy. But best of all these bullets give us a one shot kill if the target is hit in the head, with or without a helmet. Since the ak47 is so cheap and has this one shot head shot ability, many CT players often don't bother buying a helmet, choosing instead to buy grenades or a better weapon. So if your are fighting at long ranges with an AK go for single shots and go for the head.

The AK47 is arguably the most versatile weapon in game, with quick killing potential at close, medium and long ranges. And with such a small price tag, its an extremely smart choice. If you are playing as a CT and you find an AK47, you might want to pick that up, even if you don't want it someone else on your team will. Loud, ugly, cheap...maybe, but this phoenix that rose from the ashes of world war 2, is the ultimate machine of war.
