Cutthroat Island is an action-packed platform game, inspired by the 1995 film of the same name, developed by Software Creations and published by Acclaim Entertainment in 1995 for the Game Boy, Game Gear, Genesis, and Super Nintendo Entertainment System.

The plot revolves around the historical events of 1619 when the pirate cutter, Sea Devil, captures a Spanish cargo ship, Santa Susanna. After a storm wrecks the Sea Devil on the uncharted Cutthroat Island, only one survivor, Fingers Adams, escapes with the map to the hidden treasure.

In the year 1688, players holds one piece of the map, on a quest to find the other pieces and unlock the legendary treasure. Faced with wanted status and adversaries, the player must overcome rivals and the law to reach the ultimate goal.

Players choose between two characters: Morgan Adams, a skilled female fencer armed with a rapier, or William Shaw, a rugged buccaneer wielding a sword. The game has both single-player and two-player action modes, featuring two distinct gameplay styles: Swordplay and Brawling.

The player's character must conquer 10 levels, facing off against various adversaries such as pirates, redcoats, and harbor masters. Throughout the game, the gameplay takes diverse turns, with level two entailing an escape from pursuing prison guards in a quarry cart, and level five catapulting players atop a runaway horse-drawn carriage. As the game progresses, players can collect an array of items, including knives, bombs, bottles, torches, hammers, pistols, and other formidable weapons.

Upon its release, the game offered players a unique promotion, encouraging them to find hidden treasure chests within the game and participate in a contest for a chance to win real-world prizes.
