After having experimented with different graphics settings in the PC version of the game and made my way through the story missions of Act 1, Cyberpunk 2077 is getting a bit more interesting than during my initial test runs on the Xbox Series X earlier this week.

Given that Cyberpunk's open world didn't turn out to be half as interactable and dynamic as the pre-release ads seemed to imply, I have been trying to focus more on the core gameplay and explore the available skill trees to see how much RPG customization there really is in the game. I'm playing on the Very Hard difficulty and prioritize stealth and hacking over the bullet sponge-heavy shooter mechanics. Played this way, there's an enjoyable (if far from revolutionary) Deus Ex-like vibe to sneaking through enemy bases and jack into their computer systems.

Despite the easily recognizable genre tropes of its setting, there are plenty of good performances and excellent motion capture for individual plot-related characters (made all the more intense by the rather strict adherence to first-person perspective). Whereas the opinions on the main arc of the campaign appear to be mixed, there have been enough reports of compelling sequences to make me want to continue with the main storyline.

Sadly, although the load times are very fast and the game can run and look quite good on my RTX 2080 Ti-powered rig, there are frequent and seemingly random crashes to desktop in the current PC version (running with the latest graphics drivers etc.) which has definitely had an impact on my experience so far. At least the autosaves are generous, and I've yet to lose any significant amount of progress due to these technical difficulties.
