After the release of Xbox Series X, rediscovering the vibrant squalor of post-Brexit England in "couch gaming mode" with HDR on a 4K TV has been an unexpectedly immersive experience. The 30 FPS limit is definitely a downgrade compared to the PC version of Watch Dogs: Legion (and raises questions about the wisdom of devoting precious hardware resources to fancy stuff like raytraced reflections), but the game's garish tech-dystopia truly comes to life on a bigger and brighter screen. When it comes to virtual cityscapes which feel more organically produced than artificially constructed, nothing quite beats the soul-crushing metropolitan sprawl of Rockstar's GTA 5, but Ubisoft's London is a dazzling cesspool of urban despair with just enough of that greasy Cyberpunk aesthetic to hold us over until 2077 (or "December 10th", whichever comes first).
