DCS: F-5 vs F/A-18 BFM Fight
102Another F-5 engagement! These are fun, so more are probably on the way.
The F-5's bigger, younger brother, the F-18, is a beast within visual range. I tried, as always, for the head-on kill at the merge. The gun strikes in this pass look pretty cool, but didn't kill the Hornet, so it's on to the turning fight.
When outclassed by newer, fancier designs like the Hornet, the best thing to do is fly as well as you can and be ready for the bandit to make a mistake. This is exactly what happens here. I tried to retain as much energy as possible. The AI Hornet, however, makes several high-G turns and ends up near the hard deck, where he tries to zoom climb at low energy state. Since I had more energy, I quickly caught up to him and slammed him with my 20's.
A fun challenge. On to the next!
