DCS: F-5 vs F-14 BFM Fight
145This is the F-14 Guns Only practice mission from the F-5E BFM campaign by Maple Flag.
The F-5 turns really well, but with the Tomcat's insane amount of lift, it can turn *really* well, also. Therefore, you can't rely on flat turns to beat it, he'll just out-turn you. Further, he has better thrust to weight ratios, so you can't outrun or outclimb him either. You have to use the vertical to enhance your turns and get the nose not necessarily on him, but in his flight path.
Within the first few practice sessions, I've learned a lot about how to kill things in the F-5 using guns. Obviously, I recommend the campaign highly, but if you don't have NTTR or the campaign itself, you can get close by creating a 1v1 guns only mission and cranking the AI up a step each time you try it.
