With the message sent to Patch's pager having been from Gofer, man who had hired Marvin Silt and, as implied by the message sent to Patch, has connections to Mayhem Inc. and thus likely knows who set him up for Augie Blatz's murder, Jack comes to the city's dockyard where Gofer is waiting for Patch, unaware that he's dead and that Jack was the one who received the message. As Jack meets Gofer near one of the warehouses and informs him that Patch is dead, Gofer tries to escape, forcing Jack to pursue him across the sprawling dockyard while also battling the assassins covering Gofer's escape. The chase eventually ends in an cold storage of one of the warehouses where Jack finds Gofer dead with his corpse brutally speared onto an block of ice and is forced to engage his killer; Hulking longshoreman armed with an crossbow, in an fight within the cold storage which he manages to win, although with severe injuries. Barely able to walk, Jack drags himself to Oar House, bar where Hildy has found an employment after being fired from The Den Of Iniquity and manages to warn her not to call the police or the ambulance before collapsing. Waking up some time later, Jack finds himself patched up in the bar's backroom. Just then, the establishment is visited by Rafshoon Diggs, Afro-British ex-boxing champion-turned thug-for-hire flanked by two members of Pinnacle Security, private security firm owned by William Pinnacle. As Hildy goes out to stall Diggs, Jack and Shadow stay hidden in the backroom and listen in on the conversation during which Diggs reveals that he had been sent by Fahook Ubduhl, Middle Eastern crime lord active in Grant City who wants a "chat" with Hildy. As she tries to refuse, knowing that she'll likely be killed, she is grabbed, prompting Jack to reveal himself and try to hold Diggs at gunpoint, only for the ex-boxer to swiftly knock him out.

Waking up some time later, Jack finds himself suspended by his feet in an warehouse and facing Fahook Ubduhl personally. With Ubduhl assuming that Jack knows more about what he's investigating than he actually does as Jack is more perplexed as to why mayor's private security force works with an known criminal, he leaves him to be tortured for information by his two henchwomen who proceed to lower suspended Jack into an vat full of water several times before they are called off by Ubduhl. With Jack having endured the torture, he sees Shadow entering the warehouse and orders him to hit the switch to lower him from above the water tank. Now free but unarmed, Jack proceeds to fight his way out of the warehouse and manages to rearm himself, proceeding to fight his way through the docks as he tries to find Hildy before she is taken away but, while he reaches the car with Hildy inside, he is unable to prevent it from driving away, leaving him with only an option to escape. As he fights his way out through the remaining assasins in the docks, Jack is nearly ran over by an truck speeding in his direction, but manages to kill the driver, causing the truck to lose control and overturn, revealing that it was transporting large quantity of gold bars. Unsure how Ubduhl got such large ammount of gold, but aware that the gold-filled trucks leaving the docks will point him to his next lead, Jack manages to stow away on another passing truck as it leaves the docks for its destination...
