Desert Strike (Amiga) - A Playguide and Review - by LemonAmiga.com
This week we return to late 1990/early 91 in this Persian Gulf open world 3D action game from 1993. I still have a lot of respect for this classic EA title, and its still fun to play today.
Production Notes:
Ripped: 18th Nov 2015
Edited: 7th - 11th March 2016
I had a quick go at this game the week before, on the 11th Nov, but the rip chopped off the edge of the play area so it was unusable. The new rip used a new setup I was trying last year. It records at 60fps but somehow the colour is lost in the grab. I inserted new footage of the game which I recorded on Monday 7th at the start of this editing session, of me collecting the bonus package, and although this was recorded at 50fps, its smoother. I am never happy with the rips of any software, so I am constantly experimenting.
I went to town on adding lots of bits of imagery at the half-way mark to make the review stand up a bit, as watching me bouncing around the landscape can get a bit wearisome.
During my research I found there were a large number of Dave Colcloughs around. Initially I found out that the Dave Colclough from this game had died in 2001, and then I found out he could be one of the great Late Night (Red Hot) Poker champions. The Dave Colclough from this game came from England, while the Poker champ is from Wales - adding to the theory that this isnt the same guy. But then I found the same image of the poker guy listed against the makers of Desert Strike on Google, so I thought, seeing as the guy used to be an computer programmer, and google made the same judgement, maybe they are the same guy after all....
After playing the music from the SNES version in the game, I just cant stop thinking about it. Great track. The console versions were definitely better than the Amiga, but the Amiga screen was larger and it had some better sound effects, so I still think its great.
