DFFOO [JP][6 Warrior Quest Area 1] Delay + Ignore Mechanic / FT strat, Braska FT w/ Kam'lanaut BT+
I ended up pitying his BT+ (got his FR too) because I really like its effect lol. That and I have no interest in the rest of the block, but after all not the best pull practice due to possible future free pull lucksacking.
I did this 6 times with different strat, with and without concern regarding the mechanics lol. This is the 2nd most refined DPS version with the least turn count and runtime that I came up with. The one with Kam's actual BT+ phase is uploaded separately. That one has higher DPS overall, but both of the versions will obliterate the boss before BT+ phase finishes.
Again, no intention of abusing Snow lol, although I did finish the quest with him in my initial run.
Boss:
Standard Reduction in Shinryu
Force Mechanics:
20: ATK up
80: ATK up/ Delay denial (excluding breaks)
Force Ability: (Only the lion)
Sneeze:
(Guaranteed hit) (Break Recovery)(Ignore BRV nullification/mitigation) BRV+HP x2
Force Weakness: Melee force ability
FT buff: BRV dmg cap up/HP dmg up
FT action:
The lion would start spamming Thunder Bolt+, a guaranteed hit full dispelling (meaning including silver framed buffs) thunder magic BRV+HP attack.
Tortoise enjoys the same FT buff but no action changes. If you kill the lion first, the tortoise would still enter FT, just that there would be no FA.
Solution tips for Force mechanics:
The FA is actually really tame, you can survive with a tank, a WoL shield CA, a Raijin LDCA completely shuts in down, so you don't need a tank to eat that attack.
The altered FT action is actually the problem because it fully dispels you. There are two obvious ways that you can deal with this:
1. Delay the lion with Quistis such that the tortoise takes up all of the FT
2. Paralyze the lion
The lion:
The lion usually does the normal version of Thunder bolt (FA). It does not dispel, but it hurts like hell on a ST if you don't have shield. So don't let your guard down.
The tortoise:
This guy on the other hand, normally changes from resisting non-elemental attacks to resisting elemental attacks, while susceptible to the other. (999% BRV dmg reduction)
The basic gist is when it is:
Not in the shell: weak to non-elemental attacks and prone to be delayed.
In the shell: weak to elemental attacks and only Quistis can delay
Cycle:
When it is in the shell. it has a red aura around it. If you don't hit it with an ice aspected attack, it will do a Ground Shake+ attack, and instantly killing you (full dispel, guaranteed hit).
Once you hit him, the ground shake attack would be demoted to the normal version and become significantly weaker. After that it should do a water gun BRV attack and a HP attack afterwards, before it goes back into the shell.
Solution: Delay it from the start
Curiously though, if you consistently delay it since the beginning, it will never resist any form of non-elemental attacks, even if it starts off being in the shell. So Quistis can actually help you ignore the need of swifting between having an enchanter or not in the party.
Otherwise, you just utilize the swap mechanic, and get one enchanter in or out of the main party, or you can BRV gain / refund / AoE BRV gathering you way to deal HP dmg on it. You still need to shave it or soak its HP dmg though.
General Strat:
1. Delay
With these in mind, the particular strat I used was just delay them. Delay the Tortoise from the beginning, so it never gets out of the shell and you would never need to worry about enchanting. The Lulu enchant is just for Braska's FT.
For the lion, it is much more convenient because it can be broken and delayed. Selphie, Ramza, Kain, Seymour LDCA, Quistis, Kam all delay.
They do it on off-turns, so Raijin LDCA just shuts it down.
2. Paralyze
The Tortoise can be stopped from going out of the shell with paralysis, The lion can also be paralyzed to stop it from doing Thunderbolt and Thunderbolt+.
3. Chill in their FT or FR nuke
You don't need Kam's FR/BT. You can actually let them have their FT and chill inside it as long as the lion is paralyzed. The tortoise does not do anything too dangerous as long as you shut it down with ice attack. The FT does not decrease your BRV dmg dealt whatsoever and the turn count is 105. So you don't need to worry about rushing them down with 1 FT.
Relevant Characters:
Kam:
They want you to paralyze the lion so it does not do the full dispelling Thunderbolt+ attack. Kam now self ice-enchants, so using him to hit the tortoise would knock it out of the red aura.
His FT is the only melee FR so far to shut down their FG.
Kimahri:
One of my initial clear team. As many guaranteed hit attacks as there are, you can still dodge the heavy HP dmg hitting attacks like the normal Thunderbolt and ground shake and the HP attack from the turtle being it goes back into the shell. The new 2 turn true blind is very helpful here.
Probably will take about Kam's BT+ another time, running out of space here. You can check out the Kam BT phase version of this fight in the meantime.
