DFFOO [JP][Amarant LC][Crystal Mission] It is a monk but it is Snow ft. Rem and Ace
I got 4 Amarant FR with no BT. I don't have particularly strong attachment to him in IX, so I did not go through with it. I did a Vivi+Quina run as one of the test instead out of respect for IX. It was slower, trickier but still doable.
I went with another monk and that is Snow. Because Amarant LC is 1 out of 4 brilliance crystal mission, I went with a green crystal team. My first clear was actually with Fujin instead of Ace, but I thought I have shown Fujin quite a lot lately (she is not compatible with Snow FR as well) and I just got D6 passive, so I may as well go all in with off-turn set-up.
I also speed ran it with Yda/Iris before. I just felt that there has been a lot of active punching lately, so I was just laying back and enjoying the fireworks for a change.
On a side note, I finally got a 16GB RAM installed. I have tried to allocate more RAM to bluestacks through some weird tinkering. It is not perfect, but I can see definite improvements in the form of not lagging to oblivion when summon happens with a lot stacks of BRV numbers.
Boss:
Force:
50%: ATK-
70%: DEF-
FA: Flare Star+ (AOE magic BRV+HP attack)
*can be dodged
*does not hit very hard that it shouldn't kill you
FT: 10T
- they go into 'chanting" state (i.e. floating)
- repeatedly use the action "Assault Lance" (guaranteed break recovery, ST BRV+HP attack)
- 100% BRV dmg reduction (basically 1 BRV dmg)
* chanting state is dispelled when FT is cancelled
Weakness: (cancels FT)
- FA that deals range BRV dmg
General Approach:
The bosses before FT are not particularly troublesome. Even their FA is not that lethal. It is after when they go into FT spamming Assault Lance then they start to become a problem if you give them turns. They are not slow either.
This is not a hard one by any means (well, it is a LC). You can go about it in many ways. Delay, turn deletion (even Enna is on the banner), tanking, BRV freeze even Kain jumps, any one of these would take care of the problem. You can also out-charge them so the problems never spawn.
If you do let them have FT though, beware that without further reduction, a WoL shield typically goes down in 2 Assault Lance. If you are not careful with the turn queue, someone may die from it.
Snow here is obviously to soak the dmg. He is also the FR base user, since Rem and Ace's FR are not particularly compatible with the entire team. Hope CA was to reduce dmg and fill up all Snow's buff slots to prevent Rydia CA from affecting him. Rydia CA is simply used to make sure Rem gets a stack buff for Snow FR to work.
Rem here turn manipulates Snow to fish more opportunities for his preemptive+ whenever it is ready.
I used U6 for more LDs here. All 3 of them benefit from having more uses and Snow mostly uses it to manually set his LD stacks to 2 whenever Rem has a turn before the boss, so those preemptive+ are not wasted.
As mentioned D6 is there, so the party in general is slower than usual. That gives me more bonus and more ticks from Ace's cards.
As a bonus, Ace's finishing attack goes off at the right time. So Snow's involvement isn't needed at the end.
That's about it. I tried almost every crystal colour comps. Some with range FR to cancel FT, some without. Since I haven't been lucky enough to sack some of the range BTs after Irvine in May (including Amarant here), the selection is rather limited when you factor in the crystal colours for the mission. You can still clear it without much obstruction, some are just not as clean/satisfying as others.
Quick Note on Amarant:
I think he is pretty cool with an interesting personal mechanic. If I were to describe him, he is like a convertible in regards to dealing ST/AOE dmg with some support on the side.
The funny thing about his BT making his follow-up counter is that he does not have dmg reduction/taunt or anything like that. In that sense he is somewhat like Machina, but even Machina has some form of BRV dmg reduction. So if you want to use him to the fullest without him dying in more HP dmg intensive fights, he may not be as plug and play as some of the others.
That said, I think his dmg is quite good. His FR is not the most crowd accommodating ones (needs (thanks pin comment for correcting this) special effects, you can get 40% if the character only has stack effects), but when you can get it to work it is very potent.
