DFFOO [JP][Keiss BT Raid] Different comps with Keiss BT with extra clips
Trying out different comps with Keiss. Actually had to spend tickets on the FR because after 400 G tokens, all I got was 5 Chaos FR.
I included the Iris edition as the default clear run because it uses Keiss's launch for a special interaction. I find that more interesting than the rest of the tests, so there is that.
Since I tested and ran many times, I might as well include most of them as a demo of their effectiveness. They are not controlled tests, and not all of them are perfectly optimised. So bear that in mind when you gauge their potentials.
(I even first tested with Kam FR, but unfortunately it doesn't give you 120%, so I left it out)
Timeline:
00:00 Iris Run
14:17 Keiss/Aranea/Fujin
14:41 Keiss/Aranea/Weiss
15:12 Keiss/Astos/Fujin
15:38 Keiss/Aranea/Enna Kros
The boss itself is not very interesting, so I will get through with it quickly.
Boss:
20/80%: Use "Electromagnetic Charge" (blue aura)
* Massive DEF+ and BRV/HP dmg taken- (not reduced to 1)
* dispelled after launched
FA: Burst Laser+ (Magic AOE BRV+HP)
- can be dodged
- immediately followed by "Electromagnetic Charge"
FT: 10T
- mHP-
Weakness: (cancels FT)
- FA that deals range BRV dmg and launches the boss
No known HP threshold mechanics.
General Approach:
Nothing special. You can even take their laser multiple times, including FA, in the face and not die. The blue aura reduction is not trivial, but not absolute either. So either get some strong support, strong debuff CAs or cancel their FT. There is not much else to talk about for this boss.
Regarding Keiss:
I was quite intrigued by his off-turn launch, so I may have decided to not go for Gladio and went after him instead. After trying him with quite a few comps, I actually find the mechanics less exciting that I anticipated.
What Keiss BT does now is he will perform a follow-up that additionally launches the boss another time after the boss has been launch with the main on turn action from any character.
There are a number of special interactions you can have. For example, you can have Iris BT running in the background and reset the boss to 0 BRV immediately after the first launch. Then Keiss would perform his attack and break the enemy and launch them again. This is used in the run in conjunction with Aranea's FR for maximum effectiveness (compare: Aranea FR allows off-turn 40% HP bonus with additional breaks from off-turn attacks, and it offers 50% HP dmg cap up VS Keiss's 90% with 20% cap up).
Similar to this idea, you can possibly set up a triple Dorgann Image Slash+ with this break reset idea (as you can see, the boss gets reset once again after the second launch, even though Dorgann is not in this comp).
As mentioned, I tried to use Kam FR, but the off-turn launch does not register with his FR conditions. So Kam will sit around for a while longer.
Observations from other comps from the clips:
Before going into detail, note that the Enna Kros one is more optimised and the Weiss one may not be the best representation of its potential. As you can see, the boss was kinda dead before 300 BC. A large portion of his extra HP dmg did not even come out when the boss had no HP left.
I would say compared to Fujin, it is more beneficial to use Keiss when you have a very strong dmg buffer than you can use to make Keiss deal a lot more dmg than usual.
The major study group is the last one with Enna Kros. In this one I specifically let Keiss keep the Ifrit buff just to push him to be 400K dump Keiss for the most part (you can see he is downgraded to 300K Keiss in normal launch participation). Since Keiss does not apply a bigger total dmg multiplier to your launches as opposed to what Fujin does, his personal dmg becomes much more crucial to dealing more dmg in the whole sequence. As you can see, a single turn from Aranea with these two deals quite a bit more dmg than other iterations barring from Astos (and maybe Weiss).
In comparison to Fujin, Fujin gives you a bigger multiplier to the total launch dmg in the form of the wall rush buff. So theoretically your main attacker would be biggest contributor to the overall dmg you gain when pairing with Fujin, compared to getting more dmg out of Keiss being the key when using him.
I believe in the long run, Fujin will have a bigger impact due to people (the BT phase user mostly) will be getting stronger reworks and dealing more dmg instead of relying on Keiss's personal dmg getting supported while not getting the next rework for a long time.
Other notable things:
While Keiss's S2 buff lasts for 8T, note that it cannot be extended. This may become a problem for BT phase if you are not careful. For someone like Astos/Jack G having 6T BT and typically spamming 2 FRs before they BT+, that S2 buff would fall off at the last turn. So either you will have to reapply it before going into BT or get other arrangements.
Keiss's off-turn launch ONLY happens if your main turn action results in a launch. You lose a lot of dmg if you don't.
