[DFFOO JP][FEOD:T 4 Right Wing on 1-m-old account] No crit buff, just gravity and one range char
Actually a very technical and hard fight with a limited roster and this team in particular. (1 range: Prompto, 2 magic: CoD LD; Exdeath BT)
Limitations found and units tried in test run:
1. Roster banned:
Melee units are out. Any melee attacks outside of summon means instant kill. Tried this run with Fujin, but S2 is melee so not very usable at all. Got a run to 50% but since the fight dragged on, Faris call ran out and people ran out of steam, so the run was dropped.
2. Alternate route for the crit damage requirement: Gravity, Break, Crit
Also, boss requires critical BRV hits to exit blue aura to avoid one-shot attack. and since the only crit buffer that has been released was Cait Sith and his attacks are melee, there is no crit buffer for me to use. Therefore I have to go the gravity route, then break them for crit damage. This created a problem of relying on Bartz, Faris and Exdeath call when I tried to avoid using exdeath and opt for Rinoa, Fujin, Iroha trial runs. The same issue that is when calls were out, people couldn't deal damage with debuffs and when boss put on blue aura, it was a dead end anyways.
Technical advantage and difficulties with this team setup:
Prompto:
Another unit released after the debut of this fight fits perfectly for the requirements. Red crystal, range attacker that has a off-turn follow-up to make the counter go up when teammates are attacking the boss. However, it would seem that splash HP damage does not make the count go up on the non-targeted boss, only AOE Brv hits do that. Therefore other than his EX and LD, he can only give +1 to one boss's orb.
Exdeath and CoD:
With Exdeath in the party, it means that the gravity strategy for the blue aura is pretty much taken care of consistently, leaving room for other calls.
Problem is, Exdeath does not break targets, so if he goes before Prompto, Prompto would have a hard time refreshing his LD buff stacks with no crackshot marker produced. So at times it becomes difficult to maintain the orb.
With CoD in party, "she" can push boss' turn off and in a way extend the longevity of the call debuffs, while providing strong damage and rebreaks. CoD can also hoard a few more turns for Exdeath BT HP sap cheese, as well as make Prompto follow-up twice if "she" gets additional turn. In a way, CoD is the orb manager and mediator of the pacing of the fight.
Some mistakes, concerns and extra idea:
1. Got greedy before Exdeath BT that I popped his ATK UP c65 and wasted 1 turn of Cait Sith's call, otherwise there would have been much more damage for the other two post Burst.
2. I paused and thought about the possibility of the blue aura emerging again after the 30% HP threshold before bursting, and I immediately regretted doing it. To my surprise however, they did not put on the blue aura. I am not entirely sure if it is really a thing or the burst bypassed it (Blind run assumptions lol).
3. Sabin
I considered using the newly obtained Sabin for this fight because despite him using his fists, he is actually a magic damage dealer lol. I was thinking about using his ignore defence and delays to my advantage to deal with the gravity issue. This idea was dropped ultimately because I haven't have him built and I don't have points for his boards at all. Also the lack of attack buffs and auras for CoD and him was a genuine concern after the test run with Fujin.
