DFFOO [JP][New Year Campaign MQ Series 3 Part 3] Basic Evasion CAs vs Buff Duration Down
Got a stage that GL just passed by not that long ago. I still remember myself using a full counter off-turn team as my first JP clear. That was fun watching Minwu went so many times.
Well this time it is not so fortunate, as there are game series locks. Certain combos can't be done and I just want to use another way to deal with the sneaky buff duration reductions from "not an attack". Ended up on using generic skill evasion CAs for the job and got to try a bit of Cloud with a friend.
NYC Mission Quest Series 3 Part 3:
Game series in questions: 8/10/13/T, dominant series: 10 | Low pop series: T
Chaos | Ultimecia LC | 8/10/T
Lufenia | Caius LC | 10/13/T
Shinryu | Yuna FR raid | 8/10/13
Notes:
A boss that can potentially cause a lot of trouble, both on/off turn. A few things to note.
1. It is easy to die in the first turn because of compulsory preemptive strike by the enemy. If they break you, most likely you will die simply because they chain attacks.
Either use the grand mythical S/L solution or have some kind of mitigation at QS.
2. Melee characters get countered by both with a HP attack. It can be a blessing or problem depending on your setup. This video is how my old clear utilise this mechanic.

3. At every odd numbered 20% HP threshold, the boss removes 2T from the debuffs on them and the buffs on you. They also give you a debuff. This happens off-turn and is guaranteed to happen (The description telling players a certain attack is guaranteed to happen has only relatively consistently appeared after Paine's BT) even if they are paralysed. Though this CAN be evaded.
The video linked in point 2 shows how this can be used against them.
This run aims at dodging this effect so certain important buffs can be preserved.
4. I believe they heal for 20% when they are below 20 or 30%.
Principles of this run:
Basically what I am trying to do here is to:
A. Dodge the duration reduction (most importantly, for Cid's aerial follow up buff)
B. Skip thresholds with high dmg before the CAs are off
C. Don't give them a turn so they can't reapply 4-5 nasty debuffs on me
Since there are no dodge + counter characters in these series (if only Edge is here), the closest thing we can get would be CAs. The options are:
Rydia LDCA
Edge CA
Shadow CA
Cater CA
Prompto CA
Note that while Rydia LDCA is consistent and party-wide, it is limited to 3 times. Since both bosses do the off-turn reduction, it would have been gone by the 2nd threshold.
Another thing that I did was sniping the first target at above 30% in one go, so it just died without healing, saving turns.
I did have a mistake where I should have used Seymour LD/summon to allow a 3 character launch for full Cid Raines FR bonus. Had the had happened then Seymour S1 at the end would have sealed the deal.
Funny enough, I had a Shadow friend (shocking I know) for this, but silly me brought the wrong CA and I had to restart the battle. It could have been fun putting him there for some counter fun since no Edge/Eight or Galuf were available. At least I got to give Cloud a go.
