Did You Know In GUILLERMO DEL TORO’S PINOCCHIO…
Guillermo tried to pay as much respect to the original story over the Disney version. In fact, the name of Gepetto’s deceased son is Carlo, and this is actually the name of the author of the original Pinocchio story, Carlo “Collodi” Lorenzini. Also, the scene where Gepetto buys pears for himself and Carlo is actually inspired by a vignette from the original story where he tries to teach Pinocchio about the importance of eating all of your food, even the parts that you don’t like too much. This also isn’t the first adaptation of Pinocchio where Gepetto loses his family. The Italian miniseries from 1972 called The Adventures of Pinocchio made Gepetto a widower.
