A rumored character that ended up not making it into the film is actually Rumiko Fujikawa, and Marvel wanted to have Ziyi Zhang take the role.The part ended up being cut thanks to the film already having too much going on, but they decided to use the Stark-Fujikawa subsidiary to try and promote the film. Edward Norton had also been rumored to be in the film to foreshadow The Avengers, but that didn’t pan out either. The Mandarin was another villain that was going to be put in, but they considered that to be too far fetched. They ended up using him in Iron Man 3.
