The director, Alex Proyas ended up having such a terrible time dealing with 20th Century Fox that he ended up swearing off doing another studio film. Rothman wanted to replace the end of the film to add more jokes right before the film’s premiere, but Proyas wouldn’t have it. He intended to write a book about his experience in making the film, and he was definitely going to run a marathon with the studio who kept throwing him obstacles. In the end, enough of Proyas’ friends warned him that he’d never be able to work in the town again, but it didn’t matter too much to him at the time. In the end, he only ever did two other Hollywood films after this one, Knowing and Gods of Egypt.
