Dead or Alive 6's eighteenth session of the advanced guide looks at Abare. A large aspect of DOA6's metagame, is the existence of abare: strategic attacking from disadvantage. The key to abare is to keep your opponent's retaliation in check with relatively safe, high-percentage-to-hit moves such as low jabs or jabs to let them know that they "can't do whatever they want" whenever they're at advantage.

Particularly once you get a good read on your opponent's tendencies, you can abare accordingly. Usually with a high crush (or low crush) that would either hit easily due to strong tech crouch properties or have good reward when they do connect (such as a hi-crush launcher). Abare launchers can be interesting because they're generally moves that opponents learn to fear, and thus are forced to account for dealing with said abare launcher or else they will end up seeing themselves taking a lot of extra damage in places that they don't expect to get hit.

To keep abare in check, you can use elbow checks (i.e. using 6P's or 6K's after blocking a "safe" move from the opponent), or low jab checks with your 2P. Jab checks of course are a little riskier due to high crush abare moves.

Each number represents the corresponding direction. 1 for "Down-Back", 9 for "Up-Forward", 5 for "Neutral" or no input, etc. Quarter-Circle Back = 214, Quarter-Circle Forward = 236, Half-Circle Back = 63214, Half-Circle Forward = 41236, etc.

For Input commands:

P = Punch
K = Kick
H = Hold/Guard Button
T = Throw Button
S = Special Button
P+K = Strong punch
H+K = Strong Kick
H+P = Alternate Way to Input "Throw"
H+P+K = Alternate Way to Input "S"
