DOOM + DOOM II - Kitchen Ace (And Taking Names)
1How that's for Ultra-Violence huh? Seeing something completely out of left field come out? I was blown away back in 2019 by the release of the surprise Unity Port of Doom and Doom II which yeah was flawed but good but you know, sometimes wonders never cease to amaze with I.D. Software and Bethesda releasing this surprise bundle during QuakeCon on August 8th 2024.
Doom + Doom II is a compiltation of Doom, Doom II, Master Levels for Doom II, Final Doom's Plutonia Experiment and TNT Evilution, No Rest For The Living by Nerve Software, SiGiL by John Romero and a brand new episode from I.D. Software/Bethesda/Machine Games lead by XaSeR Acheron with the new episode having a full ost composed by XaSeR and balancing by Cannonball alongside new enemies and weapons all inspired by beta content from the Doom Bible and from v0 betas.
The crisp 60FPS feeling and multiplayer that, yes is online and not just couch co-op or deathmatch supports up to 16 people and is crossplatform, Mods selection containing every release for the Unity port and ability to add new mods (which, for me is currently broken strangely) and much other changes to this KEX Engine port.
There's some issues ablit minor stuff like in Co-Op there is desync, doom 2's level changes from episode can lock up your game, scrolling textures don't move and crushers stop without warning, mods are unpredictable can crash the port or lock your system up prior to where the mods thing locks up for me as soon as I click it, and the ouch face appearing so often, no damage indicator appearing when you take damage but I will say this port is something nice in a sea of generic, often boring and quite overhyped games of this year.
