it's been a while since i did one of these... again. gotta be in the right mood for it, i guess.

anyway, this is kind of a long level to do like this, but it actually on balance is probably easier than e1m5. you get a shotgun to start and a chaingun not too long after, and there's lots of cover available in your starting room. the first tricky bit is the red key area to the right. you get locked into this room, but it only locks for thirty seconds. then you can pick up the key and sprint out. you'll note that i use the shotgun here, mostly because chaingun ammo can be somewhat limited and shotgun ammo very much isn't. there's four shotgunners here and they can come out kind of unpredictably. stick close to cover and it's not too bad.

the next part that's kind of tricky is the maze. this is mostly a matter of knowing roughly where the hitscanners are. the yellow key area is also potentially dangerous as picking it up traps you in a pincer attack. however the nearby secret blunts the effectiveness of this, as the monsters in front of you can't follow you into it leaving you free to deal with the imps behind you, then pick off the other enemies bunched up against the stairs. after returning with the yellow key, the subsequent area is relatively straightforward, although i really don't know how that lift with the shotgunners works. this is also the time to grab the radsuit in the secret near the yellow key and grab all the other secrets, then cross over to the final area.

the final area contains one major trick that i almost bungled due to inattention. you're supposed to get locked in with a whole mess of enemies when going for the switch, but the linedef to lock you in is slightly further along than the one to unleash the enemies, allowing you to escape. i was zooming around and scooping up ammo and ran full speed at the switch, just barely somehow managing to save it in time. if you're bold you can rocket here, but i didn't really want to risk the splash damage. then actually hit the switch and gun down the specters blocking the exit and you're home free.
