this map seeks to ask and answer one simple question: can you build a doom level entirely out of explosions? apparently yes. your fight is aided substantially by strategically placed explosive barrels all over the map - over a hundred of them - and other than the scraps of ammo you can bum off hitscanners, the provided ammo is almost entirely rockets. the result is that encounters end rapidly in a chain reaction of explosions and gibs. perhaps not the most sophisticated or challenging way to design combat encounters, but incredibly satisfying nonetheless. but don't be asleep at the switch for the archvile triple team midway through the level - only one can move around, but you get flanked by a squad of chaingunners that demands immediate attention. the exit can also get a little spicy, especially the part where you get dropped down a chute and get pinned in the corner by a bunch of revenants - and this time you're next to all the barrels. that one you have to take on the chin a bit but there's a handy megasphere there to soften the blow.
