[Tetanus] MAP05: Salvage (UV-Max Demo)
after a short absence we're back in action. built a new pc, installed linux and everything. it's mostly all working except the secret sound is different? think i have to check which version of doom 2 i'm using, i think.
anyway, this map is definitely one of the cooler concepts i've seen in a bit. you've got this sunken facility to explore and will have to content with both indoor areas and sunken outdoor areas. i believe this is the only level with damaging floor, which is how this works - the radsuits have been reskinned as scuba gear. there's a lot of freedom and flexibility in the map as well - there are several major fights indoors, which on completion give you the blue key, access to the scuba suits, and the ability to tackle the three outside areas safely.
that's not to say the level is without its flaws though. one major one that really grinds my secret is the one secret, which it's very easy to lock yourself out from permanently if you're not paying attention. the other is the outdoor areas - they generally require running like crazy, and two of the three require watching the clock and retreating so that you don't get caught without air supply (unless you're really fast). and there are lots of enemies that are tucked into corners and easy to miss, plus a quartet of chaingunners that are unreachable unless you try to pick up an armor.
overall i think i come down on liking this map though. you even get the bfg at the end to blow off some steam.
