I have finally released map 2 of rush and wow, I have a lot to talk about this level. I have absolutely no idea how Ancalagon managed to pull a sub 4 minute run for this awful monstrosity!
There were many reasons this took me well over 650 attempts, for start, my god the Mancubus at the doors were annoying. They alone probably caused almost half of my deaths, since if you don't move these living bricks out of the way, they will most likely end your attempt. Another main problem I had was how claustrophobic the level was specifically at the start. It ended up making most of the fights very luck based, as some enemies would die to infighting and others will just block your path and attack you when you least expect it. The fact the creators of rush added Hell Knights within the imps was a dick move of them.
Now onto the run, it started off pretty well but then it ended horrifically. Getting the blue key was mostly lucky. The mancubus didn't attack the entire time and neither did the hell knights throw fireballs. It made getting out a lot easier and getting to the blue key exceptionally quick. However as I got back, I found I was low on health, so I used the berserk as a backup plan. Then I had ran out of energy cells, meaning I had to resort to the super shotgun for most of the beginning. Everything else was a breeze until you get up to the cyberdemon room. This part was where things went utterly pear shaped, for starters I took too much damage to the revenant fireballs and even got zapped by the archvile, which is unlucky of me; but it also meant I had to resort to jumping off the platform in order to play it safe, opening the door to the arch viles would've led to certain death. This was a big time loss for me however I felt it was a necessary decision. Next, there was the room with the arachnotrons, i was low on health so i had to play it safe and chip them down with plasma and rockets from below, which also made me lose time. Finally, there was taking out the revenants. I had ran out of rockets because of the Arch Viles, meaning I had to resort to plasma for the rest of the run.
I agree with the fact that this wasn't a great speedrun, however I am happy with this for one specific reason. This was my first ever successful run of Chemical Imps! All the other 600 attempts or so were deaths, which is crazy, but also, speedrunning isn't exactly getting the best time. I really did make an effort but eventually couldn't be bothered to do more, since I was already tired out of this forsaken map.
Overall, speedrunning this map has made me grow to dislike this level, which is a shame. However, the design choices they made really didn't make this speedrun fun, and I will most certainly never be replaying this level anytime soon. I wouldn't recommend you do either, it's a complete waste of your time.
