I must say, I didn't expect to end up doing Scythe X speedruns, but here we are. Once again sorry for being inactive, I have had a pretty tough week of school and then a 6 day vacation that followed afterwards. Thankfully I am refreshed and ready to redeem myself with the next couple runs, starting with this run.
Regarding Tangerine Nightmare, I am still going to be speedrunning through the maps. I may not end up finishing map 10 until in the future, as I do not feel confident in being able to complete the map in a fast time (Spoilers, it will kick my ass back to Phobos).
Once I have finished map 6 of Tangerine Nightmare, I will once again start speedrunning Rush, as I am halfway and hope to finish it by the end of the year (I doubt I will however).
Sadly I am last place on the leaderboards for UV-Maxing this level however this level is a roll of the dice to speedrun. Not only do you need to get lucky with potential infighting and weapon usage (mainly the rocket launcher), but you will also need good damage rolls. I looked at the WR for this specific map and a lot of the enemies they killed were killed very fast. Luckily this wasn't so much a movement speedrun, but more a luck based run, as I am currently practicing my movement skills for speedrunning (Mainly SR50).
Shoutout to the Official DSDA discord server as well as the Fanmade Doom discord server for suggesting me specific tips and tricks on getting better with speedrunning, as I have improved massively as a whole.
Not only was the run lucky, but getting 50 seconds did take some time. Most of my completed runs were between 52 and 55 seconds.
Now, onto the map design. Erik Alm is a very well known member of the doom community, so it wouldn't come as a surprise to say that Scythe X is a very solid set of maps. This theme follows onto map 1, it is a great starting map for a wad. However it is unfortunate that Erik Alm has quit doom mapping before finishing this wad, which is why Scythe X only has 10 out of the 32 maps. This and the other maps were a great run up for what could have come on the next episodes, although time will tell to whether Alm will return to his position and surprise the doom community.
I highly respect Erik Alm for his work, and I am very lucky to be playing through these maps. But at the same time I wish this adventure could be longer, as the majority of maps can be completed in under a minute for speedrunning. This will be a very short and glorifying series.
