0https://github.com/freedoom/freedoom ..So now, comes the one wad that I've put off for the longest time now, I had planned to go over it 4 times in the past but each time I put the wad away because it either didn't turn me on or I chose something else in it's place. This isn't to say I'm against it, I think it's a interesting idea that still, remains as a beta and not a V1.0 release, That should tell you what the ambition of "FreeDoom" is.
FreeDoom goes back to 2001, brainstormed by Wayne Dean (Captain Mellow) as a " Project to create a free content stand-alone game based on the Doom engine", This wad I know of well because I once had a little app on my now dead LG phone named "D-Gles" which is how I first learned about FreeDoom, This version I'm using is the Phase 2 release for Doom II Iwad and it's "latest" release, Beta build 0.12.1 was released on the 22nd of October 2019.
FreeDoom wears it's doom engine inspiration all over it's monster models, weapon models, art style, mapping and music, Keep in mind this is being played on GZDoom so I'm not exactly sure how you'd see this "latest build" through D-Gles or Delta Touch for mobile phones. The mappings pretty good and those easily seen doom influences were like finding a long lost diary of mine and reading it, The last few maps feel somewhat weak but overall, this project certainly has quality to it's name, Perhaps one day we'll see a V1.0
