This 32 level megawad was one of the winners at the 2013 Cacoawards, It's goal? Re-create all maps of the original Doom 2 as close as possible to what is in the IWAD with an all-star cast: Tarnsman, Jimmy, RottKing, Esselfortium, Pavera, Alfonzo, Purist, Marcaek, Megalyth, and XaSeR Acheron being charged with mimicing the styles of John Romero, Sandy Peterson, American McGee and the lone map by Shawn Green.
Confession time, I had shot this video twice, and the 2nd video I kept because, While I greatly respect the doom community and the composers who made Mid the way I.D. Did, a OST replacement for Doom II, I still think that Bobby Prince's tracks are much better. Each map is a looking game in sorts, Some of them have the obvious characteristics of the IWAD's map that inspired said map, Others you need to look at carefully as a few maps in D2TWID look nothing at all like the inspiration it claims to be based on.
The real icing is the secret maps: With D2TWID, XaSeR and Megalyth paid homage to I.D.'s earlier days with Commander Keen, with Map 31 Vorticon being heavily inspired by Commander Keen 1 through 3 with Well of Wishes, Map 32 being all based and built around it's incarnation found in Commander Keen 4:Secret Of The Oracle, What's even more surprising with Well of Wishes is XaSeR programmed in the infamous "Dopefish", a monster that was made famous by Commander Keen into the boss of this map, And on top of this, Hexsoil, Map 33 was made as a spoof of the Xbox port's infamous map Betray, a huge amount of effort went towards these secret maps as the exits are well well hidden. While the enemy count is somewhat lower than Doom II, This megawad feels like a loveletter to it.
