I noticed no one had uploaded a demonstration of all the weapons from the free Source mod Double Action Boogaloo yet. I don't ordinarily make videos like these, but I made it for WilsonC (developer of Trepang2) as an example of good sound design in gaming. As far as I can tell, the gun sounds in Double Action Boogaloo were all recorded specifically for the game. This puts it above other mods like Black Mesa, which just used generic-sounding samples from a stock library.

The sound effects are a mix of realism and stylization with the exception of the Stallion .45 and the cartoony melee impacts. Each weapon is easily identifiable during combat and sound the way you'd expect them to based on their in-game strength.

*The Source engine has a feature where you can set separate near and far sounds within one .WAV file using the left and right channels. However, the programmers forgot to code this in for the Stallion .45, so it just sounds like you're going deaf in your right ear whenever you fire it.
