DragonBall: Advanced Adventure (Game Boy Advance) Retro Review: Does It Hold Up? - NichePlays
DragonBall: Advanced Adventure is a game I wish I didn't sleep on for nearly 20 years. Released for the Game Boy Advance in 2004, the game is a 2D side-scrolling beat-em-up/platformer that retells Goku's childhood (as in, pre-'ah geez, I'm an alien named Kakarot') adventures from Akira Toriyama's iconic DragonBall anime/manga. In it, Goku fights evil, martials some arts, and also (obviously) goes on a globe-trotting adventure for the eponymous wish-granting Dragon Balls.
The game is one of the rare instances where the original, non-Z iteration, of Dragon Ball gets some time in the limelight and was received fairly well upon its release, with critics complimenting its gameplay, visuals, and originality as far as games about the popular IP go.
But... does it hold up?
Well... Yes! In fact, it may be the *best* game about the OG Dragon Ball to date! And I'm not just saying that because it's one of the few decent ones out there, I promise!
The game has a lot of charm and is a genuinely fun/enjoyable title. While a bit short, fans of the franchise owe it to themselves to give this game a shot if they've never played it before. And if you aren't a fan of the franchise but think it looks fun, definitely give it a shot too! It actually doesn't do that bad of a job of serving as a primer to the series!

About:
NichePlays is a retro gaming review, discussion, appreciation channel by Nicholas Caesar, a writer and video editor from New Jersey. In each of his videos, Nicholas tries to mix his love of comedy and pop culture with the video essay/game review format in a way that is part Girlfriend Reviews, Scott the Woz and Cinemassacre, and part Game Sack, SomeCallMeJohnny, and StopSkeletonsFromFighting. His favorite consoles include the Nintendo Switch, Sega Genesis and Super Nintendo Entertainment System. Oh and he (I, let's not kid ourselves) tries to do it in a fun, approachable and level headed way. Because like, they're games. It probably isn't that deep.
