Game summary :
Dying light is an open world horror survival zombie game with two map levels, slums and old town. The objective is to complete side quests, level up the character ability trees (survival, agility, and power), and finish all main story missions to complete the game. The game features a day-night cycle and "safezones" which must be unlocked by the player. The safezones provide a safe haven at night when the voltatile zombies come out which basically one-hit you down. Unlocking safezones should be the first priority when entering a new map. There are also supply airdrops which must be picked up to help level up the survival skill tree. This is important because leveling up survivor skill gives the melee weapons more damage power. At the beginning of the game the melee weapon power is next to useless and passive survival techniques must be used to survive. The main feature of the game is the parkour movement system which enables the player to navigate the verticality-oriented map designs. I played the game first time on Hard which I don't recommend. Unless you are familiar with game mechanics the beginning of the game won't be a good time. As the player levels up and gains abilities such as the finish move it becomes much easier to survive on Hard. The old town map is much more fun than slums, particularly when you get the grapple hook and can move around quickly with ease.
Mini review :
The expansive and detailed open world maps and parkour movement system are the main positives of the game. On hard difficulty, the game suffers from too steep of a learning curve for new players who dont know the game mechanics yet, but its not impossible to play the game cold on hard if you have a lot of trial and error patience. The passive offense system is somewhat clunky, but once you get the hang of dropkicks/slides they are reasonably effective. It is 100% necessary to get adept with the dodge system to take on the Tahir boss fight. I played the fight without dodge and it was nearly impossible to beat on Hard since dropkicks do not stun Tahir or guards. The game also sets a large number of booby traps where the player has basically no chance to survive (open door, bomb zomb standing there and blows up etc.). Many of the quest objectives are not intuitive and can be extremely frustrating. This problem is made worse by game gltiches where the quest objective sometimes won't even appear unless you stop and restart the game. In spite of all these problems I dont regret the time I spent playing the game and I do recommend it if you enjoy open world, skill tree based games with a strong emphasis on agile movement and scavenging for survival.
