Note: This playthrough uses a relatively recently discovered patch, which disables the auto lock-on system that normally locks the player onto the first enemy they hit with a normal attack, making it impossible to turn afterwards. (see here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qHUzuyzu1k4)
With the patch, the game's lock-on system is disabled for every attack except the C5 uppercut, which still tries to track enemies.

Since I'm playing on an emulator, I put the game to double speed whenever there's a section without enemies to speed things up. There's a Fast Forward logo in the upper right corner whenever this happens.

The reason for using the Chinese version is simply to show off the dub since I haven't seen much footage of it around. For that reason I play with event cutscenes on and don't skip them.
For weapon stats, the main ones that actually matter if I get them are Musou Charge 無雙增加量
and Attack Power 攻擊力

Zhou Yu has a pretty easy time with a fresh playthrough. A solid moveset, good ability to combo to get double drops right from the start, and a good unique weapon after the fourth battle, with a nice Attack and Musou Charge bonus, as well as a fire element for C2 and C5, and at low health, he can easily set up a 16-hit combo for a potential health item drop with his True Musou attack.
His stage list is also a simple one, with the Nanman Campaign being the last stage - the simplest stage to have as last.

The first stage is a small filler stage, just four officers total. To make up for the low amount, they have higher drops, with two of them dropping +4 Attack/Defense.
At red health, you can get 24-hit combos with Zhou Yu by doing C3→C2→N3→True Musou→Run up to Enemy→C4.

At Hu Lao Gate, it is often possible to stagger Lü Bu normally if you go around and defeat all the officers who drop Attack+ with a high enough combo to double the drops. I had to interim save to save myself from death against him.
It's a feature of the game where you can save the current progress during a battle, and come back to it later. It also works as a last resort to avoid death when you don't feel like replaying the last 20 minutes again. (I try to avoid using it unless I'm quite far into a stage.)

At the Assault on Wu Territory, which gate opens at the start depends on whether you defeat the first two officers in under or over 2 minutes. Under 2 minutes opens the East gate, letting you skip past Taishi Ci (who has buffed stats) straight to Liu Yao. Defeating Liu Yao then makes Taishi Ci surrender, which is the condition to unlock him.

Chi Bi is made much simpler by going out of your way to close the gates behind the enemy lines once you secure the spots for the fire attack, which drastically reduces the number of enemy soldiers later in the stage.
Defeating Xiahou Dun and Xu Huang here spawns the box with Zhou Yu's unique weapon.

He Fei is notorious for the large amount of crossbowmen, who definitely pack a punch in this game. The big officer pileups in the corners are quite dangerous as well, especially the one in the northeast, with four officers and a ton of crossbows on top.
I do the stage the intended way, letting Taishi Ci get assassinated, and then having Sun Quan jump over the broken bridge, and defeat Zhang Liao when he appears. This gives a rare item, as well as unlocks Sun Quan. After defeating Zhang Liao, Sun Quan charges the enemy camp, and upon reaching it, the battle ends in victory.

Yi Ling for the Wu side isn't a problematic stage, as none of the enemies have buffed stats. Helping Zhu Ran carry out the fire attack, and cleaning the enemy up one by one afterwards. Most dangerous enemy is certainly Liu Bei here, as his True Musou attack is very long, and with how fast being on fire drains health is here, it makes for easy accidental deaths.

Nanman Campaign is the last stage, and also the simplest last stage you could have, since there are almost no archers on the entire map (two towers near start and the enemy camp), and only two playable officers to fight with the rest being generics. Meng Huo is also quite slow on top of that.
