In this video about Elite Dangerous, I want to talk about a mining nerf that has been released on 17 June 2020. The mining nerf is related to low-temperature diamonds. And is only effected by subsurface mining. That means that it doesn't affect Laser mining nor Deep Core mining.

Because I saw some panic situations taking place on the net (forums, Reddit, youtube, etc...) I thought I would just bring my voice of reason to the table just to explain what the nerf really is (subsurface mining) and why there is no real reason to panic. Everything is fine, just move along... nothing to see here ;)

I did a run last weekend to check how mining is affected by all of this. And to fairly honest, for laser mining, everything is just fine.

The decrease in subsurface mining had a buff with some unexpected results. The patch notes can be found here:
https://forums.frontier.co.uk/threads/fleet-carriers-update-patch-notes.546958/

Where I can quote:
"Sub-Surface Mining Deposits can now eject multiple resource chunks from one successful hit."

This caused an issue when doing subsurface mining with an increasing amount of rocks that could be hauled. So there is your buff right there. So they nerfed that part because it was a bit too much (compared to everything else). I have seen some guys that collected about 260 rocks in less than 45 minutes using a Python earning 300 mil/hour.

Have a wonderful day, and happy mining and rock hunting ;)
