Considering all of the evidence that implicates the pastor in this worn-out old house, one might think he'd do more to delay or distract this stranger from going out there. He says that it's somewhat unsafe, but he doesn't outright indicate that it's in such disrepair it might crumble to pieces in a bad thunderstorm.
