Evil Twin Cyprien's Chronicles - Sega Dreamcast - Intro and first hour of gameplay [HD 1080p]
A rare example of a European exclusive in every sense of the word as despite also being released on the PlayStation 2 and PC. Evil Twin was never released outside of Europe on any platform. A surreal 3D platform game Evil Twin has some fantastic character and scenery design the musical score is also very good. The art style and design appears to be based on Lewis Caroll's Alice books. As you will see in the video the game is very surreal mixing fantasy with reality. The story also covers some dark subject matter in places, including mentions to drugs and depression. Eagle eyed player will also spot that the pick up that shows Lenny the Teddy Bear's head clearly shows him with a cigar in his mouth smoking. Amazingly this managed to get an 11+ rating at the time.
While the art for Evil Twin is excellent the games design hugely lets it down. The game struggles to keep 30fps up and the camera angle is dogged with problems in some of the jumping areas. The platforming action is rather weak and just doesn't do the rest of the game justice. It ends up being a game that looks great and is worth playing to the end to see the whole world of Evil Twin, but it was never going to sell big numbers as a result. The Dreamcast version despite being the last port to be released was based on earlier code than the PlayStation 2 version as a result it is rather buggy in many areas, more so than the PlayStation 2 version. Worth a mention there a lot of hidden detail included in this game, the talk scenes for entering the village change dialogue if you visit the village first or not. It has to be said that the American accent of the hero doesn't fit the fantasy world that world and some of the dialogue is rather uneasy in places.
Evil Twin is also available on the PlayStation 2 and PC, but has not been re-released on any format since.
