DK started in 1981 as an arcade game made by legendary video game developer Shigeru Miyamoto. After several similar titles he got a reboot in 1994 by British video game developer RAREWARE. The Donkey Kong Country trilogy for SNES introduced us to character like Diddy Kong, Dixie Kong, Kiddy Kong, and Cranky Kong and it used state of art visuals. RARE also did the Donkey Kong Land games for Gameboy and Donkey Kong 64 for the Nintendo 64 and Diddy Kong Racing also for the N64. Later on Retro Studios took on the series and made Donkey Kong Country Returns for the Wii and Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze for Wii U.
DK has appeared in other games like as a boss in Punch-Out and as a playable character in the Mario Kart and Super Smash Bros series and has also had games co-starring Super Mario like Mario vs Donkey Kong for GBA. He had his own TV show titled Donkey Kong Country in the 90s. It was a ground breaking CG animated show. And he appeared in the Super Mario Bros movie and now has his own theme park at Universal Studios. The next game in the series is Donkey Kong Bananza for Nintendo Switch 2. the future looks bright for DK!
